Prized for its favor, abalone is considered a delicacy. Overfishing of abalone and habi-

in its population. To supplement the high demand, commercial abalone culture has

                                                    A Revolutionary Hero

Admired by “liberal” anti-government students as Thailand’s Che Guevara, Chit
Phumisak, amidst a tyrannical political environment in Thailand, stood up against and
tussled with a series of military-led dictatorships. A natural born linguistic genius,
he expressed his political beliefs and ideology through literature. He was killed in 1966
while operating a communist movement in the Northeast, at the age of 36. Years after
his death, his story became immortal and his principles were found politically inspi-
ring, particularly in the early 1970s when political tension between the military-led
government and revolutionary students was mounting. His legend has prevailed even
after the triumph of the 14 October 1973 student uprising to overthrow the government.
